Fashion month favorites I: NYFW

It’s obvious Alexander Wang can do no wrong. Just thinking of the process each garment went through makes me want to write him a song. (Check here for previous song dedicated to Alaia) For those of you who think this collection was simply stitched up: BOOYA, you couldn’t be further from the truth. So here’s the deal; one late summer night in July, Mr Wang was sitting at his studio thinking about how mainstream garment construction has become and so it hit him; he’d gather leather garments, cut them into pieces then loosely sew them back together with a sort of see-through panel that left strips of skin visible. I wish i could say that was all, but it’s not. For the final walk, the lights were dimmed and all of a sudden the outfits began to glow in the dark. The End.

Here’s what the critics had to say:

More than merely engineered for the in crowd, the lineup was sophisticated and very smart.” WWD

The show already felt vital and dynamic–then came its vibrant ending: Models lined up for a glow-in-the-dark effect that changed graphic into color, bringing an ovation from the crowd.” International Herald Tribune

If any New York designer is setting the agenda in modern fashion it is Alexander Wang, whose latest collection was a surgically re-constructed interpretation of the modern urban uniform that managed to be beautiful and gutsy, bizarre yet plausible.” Fashion Wire Daily

It’s rare, during New York Fashion Week, to attend a show that has audiences literally cheering aloud. At Alexander Wang’s Spring 2013 show today, that’s precisely what happened.” Fashionologie

H&M x Anna Dello Russo

Anna Dello Russo, Editor-at-Large at Vogue Japan, has become synonymous with eccentricity. Boasting a closet filled with more than 4000 pairs of shoes, she vows to never repeat an outfit twice. Looking through street style photos of Anna, it’s obvious she loves to accessorize be it with statement hats, bracelets, necklaces or all of the above.
A few months ago, H&M announced that it would be adding Anna to the list of collaborators. Being a non-designer, she chose to focus on her #1 love: accessories.
In a promo video she released for the collection, she lists her 10 ‘fashion rules‘:

  1. Fashion is a declaration of your own freedom
  2. Between style and fashion? Absolutely fashion
  3. Fashion is always uncomfortable, if you feel comfortable you never get the look
  4. Fabulous at every age
  5. Wearing night clothes in the daytime is unexpected
  6. Somebody wearing your same outfit? Wonderful, you did the right choice
  7. You must wear outfit once
  8. Wear coat as a dress
  9. It doesn’t matter the size of your body, fashion flatter everyone
  10. Fashion jewels personalise your style. Nothing succeeds like excess

Its been almost a month since I last posted, I was simply overwhelmed with the last couple of weeks of summer and the whole going back to uni factor. But now that I’m all settled, here’s what you missed:

-There’s been a huge Alexander Wang drop on The Outnet. Shop here.

-Speaking of Alexander Wang, I fell in love with the whole collection. NYFW + LFW favorites coming right up.

-If you happen to be in London on Monday September 17th, be sure to pass by Scott Schuman’s book signing at 6pm in Harrods.

-Shopbop has re-launched with a super clean front. Check it out.

–We’ve got the scoop on the entire H&M x Anna Dello Russo collection. In the meantime, watch ADR’s video here

Phelps stars in Louis Vuitton’s latest campaign

It’s only been 2 days since the Olympics Closing Ceremony and Louis Vuitton has already gotten Annie Leibovitz to snap up Michael Phelps for their latest campaign. Phelps is dressed in a buttoned-up suit while chatting on a couch with 77-year-old former Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who, between 1956 and 1964, won 14 individual Olympic medals and four team medals. She held the world record for most decorated Olympic athlete until Phelps topped it less than two weeks ago.

Lo- Lo- Loafers

Bring out those silk robes, fashion is taking a royal turn this season.
Kirkwood, Choo and Zanotti are a few of the designers who seem to think girls should (temporarily) ditch their heels and keep it low with these Lo-afers. Scroll down and shop away via Net-a-Porter

The past couple of years have seen quite a few fashion collaborations lead by major high-end brands such as Lanvin, Versace & Comme des Garcons alongside H&M and Target to name a few. This Christmas however, Target x Neiman Marcus have got something major up their sleeves; they’ve got not one, not two, but 24 collaborations that are set to be released just in time for the holidays. Designers include Diane Von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung, Alice & Olivia, Marchesa and much more. Personally, I can’t wait to see what the collections will look like! Check out the video below!
